Parent Panel and Small Group Discussions
During our DASH Camps we have a place for parents and family members. For an hour or so, we lead personal story sharing about diabetes with our parents and family members who live with type 1, type 2, pre-diabetes and type 3 diabetes. Sharing your personal story with diabetes can be a very vulnerable experience, which is why it’s important to make sure everyone feels comfortable and the sharing space is judgement free.
Extending from our sharing sessions, we have group activities along the lines of carbo guestimation, teenager problems or diabetes problems, kids first language, and finding the balance between parent, advocate, medical pro and the many other roles our parents and family members take on when diabetes enters their lives.
